In order to provide you a better understanding of the positions currently available within the R&D group, we have compiled an overview of the career opportunities within this area of the business. *SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT* We are looking for application level software developers to become an integral part of different teams within our R&D organization -Radio Applications, BlackBerry Consumer Software Research & Development, and the Product Delivery teams. Preferred languages are C, C++, Java, Flash and J2ME. EMBEDDED SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT A variety of RIM teams are looking for passionate developers to be part of our Operating Systems group, Platform group and Product Delivery teams. These software developers and designers will have the opportunity to work with the design, implementation, integration and testing of robust real time software. The OS is the core group at RIM that develops the kernel, device drivers, memory management, file system and the audio and video framework for wireless devices. *MIDDLEWARE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT* Opportunities within the middleware team include positions that are responsible for implementation of the Java Virtual Machine on the target platform, identifying and implementing software upgrade strategy, implementing multi-media sync engine between multiple devices, providing detailed analysis of Middleware implementation and identification and implementation of improvements, measuring and optimizing the Middleware performance as well as developing framework(s) in order to help application software development. UI DESIGN As part of the Consumer Design Group, UI designers/developers we are seeking individuals who will demonstrate excellence in collaboration, communication and innovation on next generation interaction models. They will work closely with the RIM Interaction Design team, and formulate their views and guidance into product ideas and workflows. RF HARDWARE DESIGN We are looking for Radio Frequency Designers who will be responsible for the Radio Frequency (RF) design and verification of both 2G and 3G wireless handhelds. They will also need to have knowledge of knowledge of handset radio design in GSM, EDGE, WCDMA, GPS and WLAN technologies. They will define and implement RF/EMI tests, and conduct root-cause analysis on devices. HARDWARE SYSTEM DESIGN We are looking for Hardware System Designers who will be responsible for system implementation of next generation processors and the interfaces with all subsystems. They will work closely with the various hardware and software groups to optimize performance and ensure a common interface is maintained between all products. They will also design hardware platforms and support various product teams. This will include implementing and debugging new technologies or subsystems into RIM products. SOFTWARE TEST SPECIALISTS Several of our software teams are seeking experienced individuals with software testing skills to work on exciting new leading-edge products. This team is responsible for manual product testing on new Blackberry products. INTEROPERABILITY TEST SPECIALISTS Working within the development organization, the successful candidates will be working on cutting edge BlackBerry platforms and high-end test equipment. These roles will have responsibility for performing and analyzing protocol and interoperability (IOT) on mobiles across multiple air and tethered interfaces such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB. TECHNICAL LEAD The BlackBerry Consumer Application development team is looking for a Software Development Technical Lead. As a member of the BlackBerry Consumer Software R&D team, you will be responsible to own and drive technical vision on exciting consumer media applications. You will be working closely with other technical leads, software developers, product, project managers to deliver on key technical concepts and product visions. The successful candidate must have a strong software development background, deep understanding of mobile multimedia space, and insight into system architecture, design, and development estimation. HARDWARE PROJECT MANAGERS Management of the Hardware (HW) team deliverables for handheld projects/programs include schedule management and generation including tracking and monitoring schedule progress, base lining schedule, feeding and linking hardware schedule to overall program schedule, and taking action on issue management to assist primes in resolution of issues and as appropriate resolve issues independently. Support writing hardware release notes, initiating hardware declarations, and release notes for internal teams and customer consumption. They will also interface with Certification team regarding status and planning, provide support for Program Review Charts generation and other reports, assist with preparing ECN/Waivers, support with internal teams related to Quality Assurance. They will coordinate weekly hardware meetings and support for various other projects including action logging and weekly minutes, communication of weekly status to Hardware Director and Program Manager.
